Member of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers
North American Province Leadership Team
Brother Raymond J. Vercruysse, C.F.C., Ed.D. will be the final speaker to address the assembly on Friday, June 20. Brother Raymond is presently a member of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers North America Province Leadership Team. He is the director emeritus of the Institute for Catholic Educational Leadership at the University of San Francisco in San Francisco, CA.
Vercruysse has a BA in Economics with a concentration in Math and Religious Studies from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. His MS is from Catholic University of America, Washington D.C. His master's thesis was "Burnout of the Religious in the School". He earned his doctorate in Catholic Educational Leadership from the University of San Francisco, where his dissertation was "The Congruency of Blessed Edmund Rice's Charism with the Essential Elements of a Christian Brother Education in Christian Brothers' Owned Secondary Schools in the United States."
A prolific writer and presenter, Brother has written numerous articles and conducted workshops on Catholic education, with particular emphasis on the preparation of leaders for Catholic schools. Brother Raymond speaks from his experience as a teacher and administrator on both the high school and college levels as well as extensive academic study in the area of Catholic educational leadership.
The title of his presentation at the Global Conference is "Seeking to Extend the Kingdom to the Ends of the Earth with a Great and Longing Heart." The goal of his presentation, Brother Raymond states, is to awaken the interior spirit of learners and leaders by empowering all in the faith and learning community to strive to fulfill its mission within the contemporary Church. We learners and leaders will thus be challenged to be advocates for those on the margins of society and empower young women in our schools to be fully engaged in the life of the Church, following in the footsteps of St. Angela.
