Global Education Conference Newsletter (October 2013)

WELCOME

This is the eighth newsletter we have sent to Ursuline schools and educators about the Global Education Conference to be held in the United States in June 2014.

In past newsletters we have shared information about the theme of the conference: Global Education in the Ursuline Spirit and the three goals that Ursuline Educational Services (UES) has in sponsoring the conference. We have described each of our five speakers and the topics of their presentations.  In the last issue we answered questions that might be on your minds as you consider attending the conference.

The main purpose of these newsletters is to encourage you to come to the conference. We will continue sending these to Ursuline schools and educators around the world.

If you have not received any of the previous newsletters and would like to have them sent to you, please let Judy Wimberg know: jwimberg@ursuline-education.com

We look forward to welcoming you to the USA and the Global Education Conference. You can contact anyone of us for more information about the Conference.

Conference Update

During the conference there will be time set aside for those present to engage in dialogue with their Ursuline colleagues from around the world. We want to schedule time for groups to come together to discuss topics of common interest. We need your suggestions to make good use of that time.  We invite you to send us topics that you would like to discuss with other Ursuline educators from around the world.

You are not expected to give a presentation on the topic; just come with your wisdom and questions and we'll see how the conversation progresses. You will have several ways to offer suggestions of topics. There is a section on the Registration Form where you can offer one or more topics for discussion.  Also in the next several weeks, UES will launch its new website and there will be a section devoted to sharing topics for the Conference. So you can make suggestions via an email to Judy Wimberg: jwimberg@ursuline-education.com; or put the information on your registration form or wait until the new UES website is available.

Elisa Ryan, OSU, a Roman Union Ursuline in the US Central Province, has graciously offered to organize this part of our program.  Elisa is a graduate of Ursuline Academy in St. Louis, MO and has pursued studies in mathematics and secondary school administration.  She has been a teacher, a principal, a member of the Central Province Leadership Team and a member of the International Leadership Team for the Ursulines of the Roman Union. She currently serves on the Vocation Ministry Team for the USA Provinces of the Roman Union. Elisa has served on Boards of Trustees for several Ursuline schools and this year she begins her tenure as a Trustee for her Alma Mater.  Based on her wide-ranging experiences as an Ursuline and as an educator Sister Elisa will probably have many suggestions of her own for topics of interest.

We had hoped to send out registration forms and other pertinent information to you in September. Obviously we missed that deadline. Our plan now is to mail the information to you on October 11.  The information will also be sent via email soon after that date and will also be posted on our new UES website. We are searching for mailing addresses for all Ursuline schools around the globe with some success. If you receive the information about the Conference, please share it with others in your country or province so that the information is distributed as widely as possible.

As the time for the Global Conference gets closer we, the Planning Committee and the Board of Trustees of Ursuline Educational Services are getting more and more excited about this gathering of Ursuline educators.  One of my favorite passages from the Legacies of St. Angela comes to mind:   . . .take care to bring your daughters (and sons) together from time to time. . . .they will meet together as loving sisters, (and brothers).  . . giving joy and encouragement to each other and this will benefit them greatly.

Plan to attend!
